Located just off Exit 23 when travelling south on the I-87, the Adirondack Camping Village is a great scenic camping stop for anyone visiting the Adirondack Mountains of New York for the first time.
I have had the pleasure of vacationing at this campground several times over the past few years with two different trailers. Sure, there are cheaper campgrounds in the Lake George/Saratoga Springs tourist region, but this campground is a prime example of ‘you get what you pay for’, located only a short distance from the boardwalk or outlet shopping in Queensbury or Glens Falls.
Campsites
Campsites here are not what I would describe as cheap, with rates ranging from $37 per night for a basic tent site with no amenities, to $57 per night on 50 AMP full hook-up sites. What I did like about this campground was the privacy and attention to detail each campsite is given. Under the huge stand of mature pine and hemlock trees, all sites are level with a well-positioned fire pits and picnic tables. Even the water and electrical hook-ups are positioned where you’d like to see them. Several bathroom and shower buildings are located onsite and there are even camping cabins for those who don’t own a tent of camper trailer.
Amenities
Adirondack Camping Village offers such amenities as two modern heated pools, movies each night for the kids, daily hayrides, well-groomed nature trails, free Wi-Fi near the rec hall, a playground with basketball/volleyball set-up, as well as horseshoe pits and shuffleboard table. The pools are always a hit with my family and we spend several hours there each trip.
Campground policy
Check-in at Adirondack Camping Village runs between 1 PM and 8 PM during the week, and 1-9 PM weekends. Your campsite reservations will only held until 9 PM, so get there early. Check-out time is 12 noon at the latest and your site must be vacated for cleaning and remember to remove garbage from site when you leave. Quiet Hours at this campground run from a, more than respectable, 10 PM to 7 AM. The owners will remind you to respect your neighbors and to not create unnecessary noise especially during quiet hours, and I’m perfectly fine with that. Please allow fires to die down after midnight. No bonfires or fires over 3 ft. high are allowed at any time for safety reasons. Also, take note that the security gate is closed from 1 AM to 6 AM, and no entry is permitted after 1 AM.
Area attractions
While staying at the Adirondack Camping Village, it’s wise to plan outings the whole family can enjoy. You’re not in Canada anymore so why not do some exploring! Just a short distance away in Queensbury is the Six Flags Great Escape & Waterpark and, as the name implies, is the perfect get-away when you need a reprieve from the routine. My wife, two daughters and I enjoy the midway on such famous rides as the Canyon Blaster and the Desperado Plunge, while afternoons can be spent leisurely hanging out in the waterpark. Six Flags also boasts a superb indoor waterpark just down the road, with top-notch accommodations called the Great Escape Lodge.
Overall
For tenters or trailer campers who enjoy privacy and tranquility, travelling a most beautiful part of upstate New York is perfect. There are other less expensive campgrounds in this Region and I have camped at many of them, including state park at half the cost. In my opinion, is is worth paying a bit extra for the comfort and quality of a well-run private campground such as Adirondack Camping Village. Oh, and make sure not to forget your passport when travelling into the US, and leave all your firewood at home. They will ask you about that at the border. For more information call (518) 668-5226.
