“more of a RV/seasonal Park or day use park”
-By Kathleen O’Hara Hines, Hamilton
We recently attended a group camping event at Long Beach Conservation Area on Lake Erie in Wainfleet, Ontario. We camped along side over 100 molded fiberglass trailers. If it wasn’t for the annual event I don’t think I would go there on purpose. The campground was much smaller than what we are used to when camping. In my opinion its more of a RV/seasonal Park or day use park. It would be good for holding a group event or wedding as they are very accommodating that way with large pavilions, washrooms, horseshoe pit, playground and beach close together. However our Hydro site which had great shade and near washrooms was across the main street in a separate camping seasonal section. So we had to cross the street and re-enter to the park gates on other side with a card. This was a pain to us having a kid, 2 dogs and all the gear to enjoy the event. The park was clean and the staff was nice but we will not be back unless its for next years group event.
As for the conservation area, there was not much to see or do there. The beach was closed when we were there, as it was tested daily and did not pass. There did not seem to be too many bike trails and the sites were really close together. One of the smallest conservation parks I have camped at.
